Did you know that between 1923 and 1924 over 100,000 saxophones were sold? It was the era for saxes everywhere! The show's entertaining and enlightening presentation recognizes the contributions of legendary artists and the songs they popularized: who could forget Boots Randolph honking out "Yakety Sax," the wispy tones of Plas Johnson slinking along with the "Pink Panther Theme," the fiery style of Charlie Parker carving out innovative Bebop melodies such as "Scrapple from the Apple," or the warm, lush, breathy tone of Stan Getz and his sensuous version of "Girl from Ipanema"? Saxophobia presents a rich and riveting history of the saxophone and the players who gave the sax its many voices. Today, over one hundred and fifty years after its birth, the saxophone continues to be loved and embraced, and is a vital voice in many styles of music. www.saxophobia.net October 25, 2009 - STRING FEVER!!
